If your dishwasher isn’t working correctly, there’s a good chance your sewer line is clogged. Your dishwasher is connected to your kitchen sink’s water supply line and its drainage system and it won’t function properly if one of those is plugged. Yes, it could be food or debris doing it, but it could also be a symptom of something worse.
Here are 5 ways you can tell if your dishwasher is clogged.
1) Gurgling
Hearing strange noises from your drains means that water is trying to break through an obstruction. These clogs can happen in your sewer line or secondary lines. Hearing this noise means you need a plumber!
2) Your drain flows slowly
If you notice your dishwasher or sink not draining quickly, it’s likely you have a clog. Get it fixed quickly before the problem gets worse.
3) Water backup
If water backs out of the kitchen sink when you run the dishwasher, you have a problem. You should shut your dishwasher off immediately and then run your garbage disposal to get rid of any residual obstructions. If that doesn’t fix it, get help.
4) Leftover water
After your dishwasher completes its cycle, look and see if there is water pooling in the bottom. This means the drainage is working incorrectly. If you can’t determine the cause, give us a call!
5) Unclean dishes
Likewise, if you open the dishwasher after it has run and find your dishes are not clean, that could mean it didn’t actually fill with water. This would indicate a clog in the main line or secondary kitchen line.
If you suspect your dishwasher is clogged, give us a call and we can help!
