Can I Shower During A Power Outage?
If you want to shower during a power outage, you will need a traditional tank-style water heater in your home. Furthermore, your tank will need to have hot water already in the reserve (which it
may or may not). Finally, if you want to take a shower, make sure you do it soon. The water heater, keeps a large reserve of heated water, but that water will only stay hot for so long-not more than a few hours.
Before you take that hot shower, though, as yourself if it’s going to be out for a very long time. If it is, you’re only going to have a short supply of hot water and you should use it for other tasks that might be more urgent.
What if I have a Gas Water Heater?
You may think having a gas heater means you’re spared from the outage, but unfortunately you’re not. They still need electricity to ignite the pilot and maintain the temperature of your hot water.
You can find a few fringe older water heaters that can operate regardless of if they have electricity or not, but these are rare to find and not very efficient.
Tankless Water Heater? Sorry!
Normally, tankless water heaters can be great! They’re super efficient, compact and they need much less maintenance than traditional heaters. In this case, though, these will offer you no hot water at all during an outage. They do not have a reservoir at all, so if you need hot water for anything, you’ll need a generator.
